The members of the Ninth District Western Region proudly serve alongside the dedicated active duty, reserve, and civilian personnel of the United States Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan.
Headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan is comprised of 18 multi-mission Stations, 1 Marine Safety Unit, 1 Marine Safety Detachment and 1 Sector Field Office that are responsible for 1,638 miles of shoreline and approximately 19,000 square miles of surface water. The Area of Responsibility for Sector Lake Michigan covers four states: Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan and numerous intercoastal waterways, the Chicago River, and 138 miles of the Illinois Des Plaines river system.
The all-volunteer Coast Guard Auxiliary, 9th Western Region, supports Sector Lake Michigan performing a wide variety of operational, educational, support and training missions.
