We are starting up a boat crew class which will begin on January 21st at 0900 in the Flotilla 39-06 classroom (4709 Golf Road in Skokie). This class will run from 0900 – 1200 each Saturday for approximately 12 weeks (through mid-April). I recommend you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the beginning of the class.
Members interested in qualifying as Boat Crew members are strongly encouraged to attend the classroom sessions which cover inport/dockside tasks required for qualification. Further details regarding the Boat Crew Qualification Process can be found on the District website: http://www.cgaux9wr.com/programs/mt/operations.php. Qualified crew members typically attend these classes as a refresher in addition to new members interested in qualifying as crew.

This course is designed to teach the novice all the boat crew program fundamentals. It is comprehensive and covers nearly every topic in the crew manual as well as every single objective in the qualification guide. Upon completion of the class room portion of the course, you should ideally:
* Have every in port sign-off completed.
* Understand every underway task in the theory and practice.
* Be well prepared to pass the Operations Policy exam.
* Know the basics of piloting and navigation (knowledge of nav.rules).
* Most importantly, provide competent and skillful trainees to take their
oral board and on the water exam for crew certification.•
Graduation requires that all class room tasks be completed to request PPE gear from the US Coast Guard and before on water tasks may be allowed.
